What do we mean by Citizenthons?
“Citizenthon” is the name we have given to the gamified events of the “European Future Citizens” project, designed to develop solutions to social and community challenges, thus promoting the active citizenship and entrepreneurial skills of young people in Europe.
Citizenthons are therefore days of play during which participants will be engaged in an urban adventure that combines digital challenges with exploring the real world.
The first Citizenthon will be held in Matera on June 19 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and June 20 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
The game
Your adventure begins in the year 3000, in the ruins of a world that was once vibrant but now seems on the verge of disappearing forever.
And it is to change the fate of humanity that you will be appointed as Guardians of the Future. Your task will be to retrieve fragments of knowledge from the five major lost civilisations: Eco-topia, Solitaire, Techno-utopia, Misinfo-topia and Apathia.
You will travel back in time to relive these societies. You will interact with their citizens, understand the complexity of their problems and experience hidden solutions to change history and avoid the collapse of the world we live in.
You will become bridges between eras, keepers of memory and architects of possibilities.

How to apply for the Italian Citizenthon
The game in Italy will be held in Matera on 19 June from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on 20 June from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event is limited to a maximum number of 15 players.
To participate in the game, you must fill out the form below by 16 June 2024. Once you have filled in the form, we will review your request and confirm your participation by email, providing you with all the information on the two-day programme.
Once the number of 15 participants has been reached, the selection will be closed.

Would you like to experience the adventure in Portugal too?
By participating in the Citizenthon in Italy you can apply for the European Citizenthon to be held in Portugal in the autumn: a great European event involving young players from all over Europe.
And in 2025…in Denmark!
The most diligent participants will be selected for the final event in Aarhus, Denmark, to dialogue with policy makers and imagine together the continuation of Future Citizens.
Travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by the Erasmus+ project ‘European Future Citizens’.
Applications are not yet open but participation in the local Citizenthon will certainly be one of the requirements for selection.
