Ülemiste Smart City is an international and diverse environment that has evolved from an old industrial district into an international and diverse hub for innovation, companies and talents.
Today, nearly 16 000 talented people work, study and live in the community. It is also a home for Estonia’s IT companies and other companies, with a total of nearly 500 companies generating more than €2 billion in annual turnover. It’s projected that this vibrant community will double in size within the next five years. An environment that was originally created for Estonia’s young and energetic talent is now attracting talent and ambitious companies from all corners of the world.

Today, this smart city has evolved into the largest and fastest-growing smart business hub in the Baltics, prioritising its own talent and developing in a conscious and data-driven way in four key areas – knowledge, services, environment and community. Students are our future talents and have become a more important asset than ever for fast-growing, top companies. Ülemiste City has introduced a variety of talent services, which encompass internships and summer job opportunities, training credits, the Road Trip to Ülemiste City Hub, and student visits to several companies in Ülemiste City (e.g., Helmes, Nortal, Playtech Estonia, Ericsson Estonia, Tele2, Kühne+Nagel IT Service Centre, ABB), as well as job shadowing days, among other offerings.
Furthermore, we arrange job shadowing days at companies located in Ülemiste City. These events are designed to facilitate student-company connections, fostering opportunities for internships, summer jobs, job camps, and permanent positions within the district. Our goal is to make Ülemiste a smart city, with more smart people working to make their businesses more successful and, as a result, to increase the amount of smart work in Ülemiste City businesses and in Estonia at large.

The Smart City is now placing a growing emphasis on the health behaviour of the talent within the campus and how to proactively manage them. In collaboration with the University of Tartu, we have devised an innovative and unique healthy city model that incorporates the mental, physical, and social growth of our talent. Following this model, we are creating a human-centric, verdant, attractive health-enhancing environment.
